Visiting Friends

As stated in another Hockey Spy.com article, the Ottawa Senators upset some of the other Canadian based NHL teams, when they voted against the idea of a new schedule format for next year. A lot of hockey fans feel there are too many divisional games which means they are seeing the same teams over and over, while never seeing teams from the other conference.

Ottawa is a team with a reputation as a cheap outfit. Their owner is always whining about his budget and the high cost of operating an NHL team. His junior A team (St. Michaels Majors) plays in an arena that is designed for kids hockey and barely seats 1,000 fans. Which explains the Senators decision to continue with the same schedule, which means lower travel costs for the team.

While most teams prefer to charter a plane for road trips, the Senators have opted for a more economical method of travel. Once again our Hockey Spy.com camera has come up with the evidence. There are pros and cons to this type of travel. There's no doubt the team can bring along a lot more luggage and equipment than a team using a plane can. But it must be a bitch to travel this way in the sub zero temperatures of winter.
