Light Weights

With the NHL salary cap now in place, the days of the rich teams simply buying their way to the Stanley Cup are gone. Teams are on an equal footing now. Those that draft well and develop their young players well will be the contenders.

Hockey Spy.com has learned that the New Jersey Devils are leaving no stone unturned in their attempts to develop from within. Although New Jersey boss Lou Lamariello runs a highly secretive operation our Spycam was able to set up and take some interesting pictures of the Devils development camp.

There is 6 different rooms in their development facility. One for goalies, one for offensive defencemen, one for defensive defencemen, one for wingers, one for centres and also one for enforcers. Yes, the Devils plan to develop their own fighters. Fighting may be down in frequency, but as long as it's part of the game the Devils choose not to ignore it.

In many cases NHL enforcers are not drafted. With that in mind the Devils have decided to identify potential enforcers at a very young age, hoping they can sign these dukers up as free agents before other scouts get a good look at them. Only the best of the best can survive at this development camp. Take a look at the picture below and try and guess which player has just been signed to a new contract as the team enforcer and which player has been released outright by Lamariello.
