LEMAIRE CAN'T C
As we all know Minnesota Wild coach Jacques Lemaire is stubborn. He’ll never be mistaken for Chuckles the Clown. It appears his goal in life is to never smile again.
But it’s his bench, so you do things his way or you don’t play. His trapping style of hockey has been boring Wild fans for years. I’m sure many season ticket buyers were just thrilled to hear his contract has just been extended.
Although he’s not the only one, Lemaire is the most recent hockey coach to rotate his captaincy. Every month a new player has the C applied to his sweater. This is insanity. Pick a damn captain. How hard could it be? Is he trying to tell us that a team supposedly built on character instead of high priced talent, doesn’t have a single player worthy of the honour?
When you rotate the captaincy you have no captain at all. Don’t even bother asking the trainer to get the sewing machine out. The message to the players is clear.
Either Lemaire is such a control freak he doesn’t want anyone else to grow in stature, or he is incapable of making a decision. Is he afraid of making a mistake?
Some teams are out there trying to win. Other teams are out there trying not to lose. Once the players realize which side they are on, they respond in kind. Which could explain why Minnesota started the season like gangbusters and has since lost a lot more games than they have won.
In the end Lemaire is saying “I can’t lead so why should anyone else.”
