Hockey Canada. A bloated bureaucracy for sure. I’m sure they do some nice things for all the hockey players in this country. I’m also sure there is a lot of money being wasted by an organization full of hockey groupies. Every time I see a world championship involving our juniors, our women, our Olympic team etc. I can’t help but notice how many Hockey Canada staff members seem to enjoying a free ride while they pretend to work at each event.

These money grubbers have now hit a new low. While reading one of the many tier two junior hockey forums, I came across an item regarding the just completed World Tier Two Junior Championships in Saskatchewan. This is a brand new event that gives these Hockey Canada free loaders one more reason to live it up on the Hockey Canada expense account.

The players from the Canadian team were undoubtedly thrilled to participate in such an event. At the conclusion of the event, they were told they could take one of their sweaters as a souvenir. Just one slight problem. The players would have to pay Hockey Canada $250.00 if they wanted the sweater.

The author of this fan forum article summed it up as well as anyone, when he described this money grab as “incredibly and disgustingly crass.”

Send your story to hockspy@hotmail.com and we will pass them on to our readers in a future installment of Junior Hockey Surveillance.
