Trading Lies with Dave Branch

Here’s what CHL and OHL Commissioner Dave Branch had to say on January 9, 2007 to Toronto Sun writer Steve Simmons.

“I am not one who is in favour of large-scale trading. I think there are valid reasons for some trades ... but we have to continue to find a way to make this right.”

By the next day Branch’s OHL teams had traded 42 different players away in a one week period.

Earth to Dave. Earth to Dave. Spare us the rhetoric. Talk is cheap.

Either do something about it or shut up.

I've never understood why this guy gets to run both the CHL and the OHL anyway. Can you say conflict of interest?

During his tenure he has turned a quaint, exciting hockey league into big, big business. Team owners and various sponsors rack up big profits while the players continued to get paid the same amount they got paid over 20 years ago.

As long as Branch is being less than honest with us, why not trade some lies with him. You’re doing a great job Dave. You’re only interest is the well being of the kids. You could care less about the greedy profiteers taking over your sport. Honest. But don’t worry everyone. Dave says he’s going to “find a way to make this right.” Look for a solution any day now.
